1. Gather and Sort

Pull your photo albums and loose prints into one spot and group them loosely by decade, event, or family branch. Remove sticky notes and paper clips, but leave tape and glue alone, since pulling at them can tear the print.

2. Start With What Can't Be Replaced

Wedding albums, baby books, and photos of relatives who have passed usually come first. After that, prioritize anything stored in basements, garages, or attics, where heat and moisture already put prints at risk.
